The Donetsk Scythians are a Ukrainian American football team based in Donetsk .
history
The Scythians (German: Skythen ) were founded in 1990. After a change of management, the temporary name change to Varangians (German: Waräger ) took place in 2004 . During the 21 years of existence, the team won the Ukrainian championship thirteen times and became three times champion of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The Ukrainian national team, which took third place at the European American Football Championship in 2000, consisted of 90% players from Donetsk.
In 1996, 2002 and 2003 the team took part in the Eurobowl . In 2004 the team reached the semi-finals of the EFAF Cup . In April 2010 the old club name was returned.
