Basic sketch of Wedge Tomb using Iceland as an example

Doorus Demesne ( Irish Diméin Dhúrois ) is one of the better preserved wedge tombs ( German  "wedge graves" ), formerly also called "wedge-shaped gallery grave". It is west of Kinvarra , about a kilometer south of Galway Bay on the Doorus Peninsula in County Galway in Ireland . Wedge Tombs are double-walled, aisle-free, mostly undivided megalithic systems from the late Neolithic and early Bronze Ages .

The north-east-south-west oriented, dolmen-like megalithic complex is a listed building and is located on a low platform. The 2.5 m long, trapezoidal chamber, which tapers in width from 1.5 m to 1.1 m, is covered by a 2.4 m long, 2.1 m wide and 0.30 m thick, overhanging capstone. On the capstone lies stone material (almost a meter thick) that comes from the outer mantle or the Cairn des Wedge Tombs. The capstone is supported by two 2.5 m long side stones (one on each side), a similarly large end stone closes the chamber in the northwest. There is evidence of a secondary chamber on the northwest side.
