Double cup, around 1600, gold-plated silver

Double beakers (also known as sideboard beakers) are special drinking vessels, mostly made of silver , that appeared in the 15th century .

Double cups consist of two hemispherical or conical bowls, which could be put together so that the upper small one forms the lid of the lower larger bowl, which can also serve as a stand.

In the 16th century , the double cup took on a different shape: the larger cup usually took the form of a woman in the rich costume of the time. Such a cup was on the table for a gentleman and his lady. This drank from the small cup, then turned the larger one, which was now filled for the gentleman and had to be emptied in one gulp.
