Double dribbling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The double dribble (also: double dribble from English. Double dribble ) is a rule violation in basketball .

A player who is dribbling the ball may not dribble it a second time after the dribble has ended.

This is always the case when the player touches the ball with both hands at the same time after dribbling, lets the ball come to rest in one hand or in both hands, and then starts dribbling again.

The rule violation is punished with a throw-in on the sideline for the other team.
