Quarter turn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sash or window driver is a simple window fitting comprising a pivotable lever to the locking of windows , doors , hatches , bulkheads and covers. It is mostly made of brass or iron.

The locking surface of the fastener slides on an inclined plane of the moving part, the "string", mouldboard or friction plate , so that the pressure on it increases as the angle of rotation of the fastener increases.

Quarter turns were also used to lock the smoke chamber door on steam locomotives .

Double driver

The double scraper is used to close two window sashes at the same time. Typically for the Renaissance, it is cast or forged from round iron and has a wide center through which the double chisel is attached to the center mullion of the window with a nail or screw.
