Arnsdorf Church

The Protestant village church in Arnsdorf, which is under monument protection, is located in Arnsdorf , a district of Jessen (Elster) in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt . It originates from the first half of the 13th century.

description

The church is a rectangular hall building made of stone blocks. The west tower of the church consists of plastered half-timbering. On a square floor plan there is an octagonal attachment with a tail hood and lantern. On the north side there is a walled up arched gate, on the east wall there is a walled up window from the time of construction.

Furnishing

The flat-roofed interior with a Baroque setting from 1716 is decorated with marbling and tendril paintings. In the reveal of the walled up east window are the remains of a late medieval version from around 1500. The pulpit altar of the church was probably put together around 1716 from parts of a late Gothic carved retable from around 1500 and a pulpit from the early 17th century. In the predella the lamentation of Christ is depicted between the flight of angels . On the right wing you can see Saints Blaise, Antonius and Andreas, on the left wing 14 helpers in need. The former shrine with the representation of Maria Magdalena between Peter and Paul is located on the south wall of the interior. In its place is now a polygonal pulpit. The baptism of the church, held in classical forms, dates from the middle of the 19th century.
