The village church of Groß Lüben , a district of the town of Bad Wilsnack in the Prignitz district , is a sacred building in the neo-Gothic style . It was built at the beginning of the 20th century based on designs by the Charlottenburg master builder Stoof. The consecration of the church took place on June 3, 1904. The objectively structured brick building replaced a previous building.

history

There is evidence of a church in Groß Lüben since the Middle Ages . When the church became too small towards the end of the 19th century, the community decided to build a new one. The royal building officer Stoof was engaged for the planning. For a construction cost of around 50,000 marks, he created a soberly structured brick building on a cruciform floor plan. On the east side the nave ends with a polygonal apse , on the west side the architect placed a 40 meter high church tower in front of the facade, crowned with a pointed helmet, in which the portal of the church is also located. When planning the building, Stoof made formal reference to the Wunderblutkirche in neighboring Bad Wilsnack . The Prussian court painter August Oetken , who was responsible for the painting and also created the church windows, was won over to design the interior . A wooden chest has been preserved from the previous building, with woodcuts on the inside lid showing scenes from the lives of saints.

In a storm on the night of July 11th to 12th, 1984, the top of the church tower collapsed and also damaged the roof of the nave. A flat emergency roof was added to the tower to replace it. In 2012 the reconstruction of the steeple began. Since October 12, 2012, a church spire built according to a historical model has crowned the tower again.
