August Oetken
August Heinrich Hermann Oetken (born February 14, 1868 in Oldenburg ; † May 20, 1951 there ) was a German painter of historicism and mosaic artist .

August Heinrich Hermann Oetken was born as the son of the farmer Joh. C. Diederich Oetken and Catharine Oetken born. Vagina born. After attending secondary school in Oldenburg, he learned decorative painting from 1885 to 1888 under the theater painter Wilhelm Mohrmann (1849-1934), who among other things furnished the Oldenburg Court Theater . In 1888 he switched to Ludwig Klingenberg's architectural office and took him on a study trip to France and Spain . From 1891 to 1896 he was a student of the history painter Hermann Schaper in Hanover , then self-employed. In 1898 and 1906 he traveled to Italy to study mosaics . For the decoration of the Elisabethkemenate on the Wartburg near Eisenach with mosaics he received the title of professor in 1906. From 1907 to 1926 he was a lecturer for ornaments and colored decoration in the style of medieval architecture at the Technical University of Berlin . After the destruction of his house at the Tiergarten in Berlin and the loss of all his artistic possessions, he returned to Oldenburg in 1944. Since his small landscapes and still lifes did not sell, he lived impoverished, but was cared for by his adopted daughter and granddaughter.
His marriage to Marie Bestvater on July 7, 1896 resulted in a daughter (* 1903).

Oetken decorated numerous churches and secular buildings with paintings , stained glass , mosaics, etc. and restored old paintings.
