The church

After the destruction of a previous building of unknown appearance in 1429, the three-aisled church with a field stone base was built from brick from 1453 to 1454. In 1640 the ceiling collapsed and from 1666 to 1681 the church was rebuilt after further destruction. Restorations took place in 1905, 1967, 1991 and from 1997 to 1998.

The late Gothic tower was renewed in 1806 and 1904. From 1813 to 1816 the church was the university church of the University of Wittenberg .

The nave has octagonal pillars and was flat covered in 1666. The painting was done in the early baroque style until 1681, and was renewed in 1731 in the late baroque style. From 1904 to 1905, the interior was repainted according to plans by August Oetken . The historicist glass windows on the side of the altar also come from this .

The altar from 1680 was made in Leipzig. It is adorned by a two-storey retable with columns and cartilage, with the evangelists standing on the side . The altar is crowned with the risen Christ. The wooden pulpit was made in 1676. The font dates from 1731, as does the council box. This is adorned with the city, spa and state coats of arms. In the southern tower hall there is a memorial room set up in 1920 for those killed in the First World War.
