The church

The Protestant village church Hohlstedt in the district of Hohlstedt of the community Großschwabhausen in the district of Weimarer Land in Thuringia is located on the outskirts of the small village. It belongs to the parish Großschwabhausen in the parish of Jena the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The Romanesque church from the 12th century has been changed many times. After a renovation on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary in 1957, the decay began. The plan was to turn the church into a granary. Finally, courageous people saved the building.

In 1991 the roof and the church tower were renewed. The medieval bell returned. Since 2001 the church has been used as a place of worship again.

On May 25, 2007, the 1050th anniversary was celebrated with the inauguration.

Bell scratch drawings

The bell, cast around 1430, has rare, art-historically significant carved bell drawings that are honored in a work by the art historian Ingrid Schulze.
