Upper town village church

Evangelical Lutheran Church

The listed Evangelical Lutheran village church of Oberstadt is located in the municipality of Oberstadt in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

A church in the village is first mentioned in 1380. A successor building, completed in 1608, was fundamentally renewed in 1716, but burned down in 1885 except for the stone walls and parts of the church tower . In 1887 a new church was built in the neo-Gothic style.

The twin window of the altar , which depicts the blessing of children by Jesus , is attributed to the workshop of the Burckhardt brothers, Munich. Inside, the accessible grave vaults were walled up with epitaphs from the local noble families from the previous church around 1850. The two-manual organ was probably built in 1887 by the organ builder Theodor Kühn from Schmiedefeld.
