The village museum Erzhausen is a local museum in the main street in Erzhausen , district Darmstadt-Dieburg , Hesse .

Architecture and history

The Erzhausen Village Museum is located on the upper floor of the "Schillerschule" (also: "Old Schillerschule"). Initially, the “Erzhausen Elementary School” (today “Lessing School”) was housed in the building. After the completion of the new school buildings, the old building was no longer used by the “Lessing School”. Since then, the building has housed the village museum and the "Erzhausen Youth Center" on the ground floor.

In 1863 the "Schiller School" was built. In 1904 the building was expanded. The so-called "rough stone" ("long sandstone") was mainly used as building material. The gable , two-storey stone house has a gable roof .

On the north facade there is a plaque with information about the history of the "Schillerschule".

The Erzhausen Village Museum today

The museum shows exhibits on the cultural and social history of the old village; they vividly document the previous living conditions in Erzhausen. The village museum is integrated into the Erzhausen school campus. In addition to special exhibitions, guided tours and museum education for children are possible by arrangement.
