history

1950s

Dornbracht was founded in 1950 by Aloys F. Dornbracht (1893–1983) in Iserlohn. The foundation stone for the success of the fittings factory was laid with the invention of the pull-out spout, which was designed for large kitchens. With this outlet, the water jet could easily be directed over the stoves to the saucepans. In addition, the kitchen was often the only water point in private households. The spatially separated bathroom only became standard in the 1950s. Dornbracht initially met the growing demand for fittings with standard fittings.

1960s and 1970s

In 1969, Dornbracht presented the first luxury faucet with Edition 2000 and opened up a new market segment in the premium area. From then on, Dornbracht focused on designer fittings.

1980s and 1990s

In the mid-1980s, Dornbracht launched the Domani designed by Dieter Sieger , the first designer fitting that was deliberately designed as an object. The Tara series of fittings followed in 1992. It has won numerous design awards, has been copied around the world and is now considered a design classic.

In 1998 Dornbracht introduced large-format overhead showers. At the same time, the brand increasingly opened up the kitchen as a living space and integrated the first kitchen fittings into the range.

2000s

With the introduction of the MEM ritual bath, Dornbracht established the zoning of the bath in 2003. The fittings manufacturer assigned each action in the bathroom to a separate area in the room. In 2007, Dornbracht developed the Symetrics, a fitting system based on a grid. The aim was to create new planning options for the bathroom / spa. With the introduction of the so-called "Water Units", Dornbracht expanded its kitchen portfolio for the first time to include basins.

In 2010 Dornbracht presented Ambiance Tuning Technique (ATT). The electronic valve enables various scenarios to be pre-programmed in which jet types, water temperatures and quantities are combined in different ways.

In 2012, Dornbracht introduced a shower that can be used while lying down in the form of the Horizontal Shower. In 2013 Dornbracht presented the digital control technology Smart Water for the kitchen and bathroom.

With the introduction of the Private Spa (2016) and LifeSpa (2017) concepts, the focus was on individuality and health. In doing so, Dornbracht relies on the findings of traditional Chinese medicine as well as health theory according to Kneipp and cooperates with experts in these areas.

Dornbracht Estate

Under the term "Dornbracht Estate" (English "Gut", "Fortune", "Legacy") Dornbracht summarizes the totality of knowledge and skills that are decisive for the differentiation of the brand.

Design principles ("5 Ps")

Dornbracht Design Principles

The design language of Dornbracht fittings is based on five principles: proportion, precision, progressiveness, personality and performance. Since the 1980s, Dornbracht's entire product portfolio has been designed and developed in cooperation with Sieger Design and based on these principles.

Culture Projects

Dornbracht has been supporting and initiating exhibitions and projects as part of the Dornbracht Culture Projects since 1996. International artists, photographers, musicians, architects, writers and designers are included.

The communication agency Meiré und Meiré took over the holistic communication for Dornbracht at the same time as the market launch of Tara at the beginning of the 1990s. To this day, Mike Meiré is responsible for brand development as creative director. He also curates the Culture Projects and, as an artist, is actively involved in some of them.

Innovation leadership

Dornbracht is committed to thinking ahead and cultivating life in the bathroom / spa and kitchen. In this context, Dornbracht deals with contemporary art and culture and deals with social trends such as demographic change , private health care in one's own home, digitalization and the transformation from bathroom to private spa.

Distribution policy

In the past, Dornbracht advised buying from specialist dealers and craftsmen. This point of view was justified with the ongoing change in the product range: away from the simple faucet with hot / cold water connection, towards more complex installations with electronic control and various, different types of outlets. Dornbracht canceled the corresponding contractual clauses on January 1, 2012 after the Federal Cartel Office had reported its antitrust concerns.
