Dornier Project 621

With Project 621 a of is Dornier at the beginning of 1960 planned year project referred that the development of an on Rogallo wings returning sounding rocket envisaged.

The project 621 missile was supposed to reach a top height of 80 km and from a height of 40 km it was supposed to return to the ground in a spiral, whereby all air traffic control regulations were to be complied with, so that the project 621 missile could even be used inland.

In May 1963 the concept was developed as the Dornier Do 122 by Dr. W. Kiessling presented at the European Spaceflight Symposium in Stuttgart.

The Project 621 was 1,969 set after there were big problems because of the choice of a suitable ear material (textile wings were not ready for the loads wing stainless steel mesh were crease-sensitive), although in 1965 still a drop test on the missile test site in Salto di Quirra was.
