Dorothea von Rieneck (* around 1440 in Grünsfeld ; † March 24, 1503 ibid) was born Countess von Rieneck , Landgravine von Leuchtenberg and Countess von Wertheim.

Life

Dorothea von Rieneck was born around 1440 as the only child of Count Philipp the Elder. Ä. von Rieneck and his wife Amalia were born. On October 2, 1467, Dorothea married Landgrave Friedrich V von Leuchtenberg (1436–1487). This marriage had three children: Amalie (* 1469), Johann IV. (1487–1531), who continued the lineage of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg in the male line, and Elisabeth († 1516).

Count Philipp d. Ä. While he was still alive, he handed the office of Grünsfeld over to his daughter Dorothea and her husband Landgrave Friedrich V. von Leuchtenberg. His brother Philipp d. J. fought all his life against this decision to hand over Grünsfeld to Dorothea, as a different arrangement had been agreed through several earlier contracts.

After her husband Landgrave Friedrich V died on May 19, 1487 and on December 5, 1489 her father, Count Philipp d. Ä. died, Dorothea married Count Asmus von Wertheim in 1489 . Presumably, Dorothea wanted to end the years of dispute with her uncle Count Philipp the Elder. End J. von Rieneck amicably, because he was married to a sister of her husband Count Asmus von Wertheim's second marriage.

Dorothea spent the last years of her life in Grünsfeld. She died there on March 24, 1503 and was buried in the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Grünsfeld.

The city of Pfreimd honored the memory of this woman and dedicated Dorothea-von-Rieneck-Strasse to her . The Dorothea von Rieneck School in Grünsfeld was also named after her.
