Dorsey Island is a mainly icy and 20 km long island in the middle of the Wilkins Ice Shelf off the west coast of the Antarctic Alexander I Island .

It was discovered and roughly mapped by members of the East Base in the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) were used in 1960 by the British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for a more detailed mapping. Their geographical position was corrected using Landsat recordings from 1973 to 1975 and 1979. The island is named after Herbert Grove Dorsey Jr. (1912–1977), meteorologist for the United States Antarctic Service Expedition.
