Dental technology
In dental technology , doubling means the production of exact copies of dentition models if these are necessary in the production process of dentures . Most often, a heat-resistant investment model is produced on which the metal framework of a model casting for a model casting prosthesis is modeled from wax parts. For this purpose, impressions of the models are taken with an impression material based on addition-curing polyvinyl silicones. When used, it is characterized by extremely precise reproduction of details without the formation of bubbles and, at the same time, high tear resistance. It is highly elastic and has high recovery values after the model has been removed from the mold.
The doubling is necessary because the so-called master model should be retained in order to be able to process and finish the dental workpiece on it. The (doubled) investment model is destroyed after the casting of the model framework.
