Doug Kershaw (actually Douglas James Kershaw ; born January 24, 1936 in Louisiana ) is an American Cajun fiddle player . He is known as The Ragin 'Cajun .

His appearances are characterized by his extroverted nature. Doug Kershaw is able to play the violin (since he was five), sing and dance at the same time. Among his greatest successes include Louisiana Man and Diggy Lo Liggy of Buck Owens .

He became known from the mid-1950s through joint appearances with his brother Rusty Kershaw (1938–2001) as the music duo "Rusty and Doug". The brothers achieved multiple placements on the Billboard Hot Country Songs . After Rusty retired from the music business in the early 1960s, Doug Kershaw continued his career as a solo artist. In 1969, he first appeared on June 7th on the Johnny Cash show, which earned him a lot of attention and a contract with Warner Brothers / Seven Arts. Two months later, the autobiographical song from Louisiana Man was the first piece of music to be transmitted from the moon to earth by the astronauts on the Apollo 12 mission. To date, Kershaw has recorded around 15 albums, some of which have made it into the country charts.

Kershaw made small musical film appearances in the films Zachariah (1971) and In der Embers des Südens (1979). In 2009 he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame for his life's work .
