The Dr. Höhne houses are a gated community in the Dresden district Löbtau . The complex is protected as a historical monument .

Location and description

The residential complex is located east of the Weißeritz on Ebertplatz in Dresden-Löbtau. The L-shaped rows of houses Ebertplatz / Freiberger Straße and Oederaner Straße / Saxoniastraße, two houses on Saxoniastraße and a row of houses in the courtyard area belong to the totality. The Dr. Höhne houses were placed under monument protection as a “striking urban development of the 1920s [with] historical and local significance”, with the rounded façade on Ebertplatz particularly defining the cityscape.

history

Planning for the residential complex began in 1911, but implementation was initially prevented by the First World War . The houses were finally built on behalf of the Dresdner Spar- und Bauverein in 1921 and 1922. The architect was Paul Beck , and the residential complex was named after the long-time chairman of the supervisory board of the savings and construction association Dr. Scorn. A total of 400 two- and three-room apartments were built.

When Dresden was bombed in 1945, the southern part of the Dr. Höhne houses was largely destroyed. After the war, a memorial plaque for the victims of the residential complex was attached to the remnants of the wall. Some of the houses that were not completely destroyed also showed considerable damage. In the following years, the damage was gradually removed, as the living space was urgently needed. After the war, the Dresdner Spar- und Bauverein became the Dresden housing cooperative, which sold the Dr. Höhne houses in 1976 to the AWG "Deutsche Reichsbahn".

After the fall of the Wall , most of the Dr. Höhne houses were completely renovated between 1993 and 1996.
