history

The Raabe Verlag booth at Didacta 2017

In July 1948 Josef Raabe founded an information service for universities. With this he supplied not only universities and colleges, but also ministries, administrations, associations and publishers. In 1964 he took over the Deutsche Universitätszeitung (DUZ), which Ernst Klett Verlag acquired at the end of 1979.

In the mid-1980s, the company began developing into a specialist publishing group. At that time the publishing offices were in Bonn and Stuttgart. While the German university newspaper was mainly looked after in Bonn, production in the book sector was increasingly taking place in Stuttgart. In 1992 the first works appeared in a series of loose-leaf collections for classroom design and preparation ( Raabits ). At the same time, the product portfolio for school administrators was developed. In 2017, Raabe Verlag became the market leader in the field of teacher handouts through the acquisition of the loose-leaf segment from Stark Verlag.

Raabe Verlag employs around 80 people in its business premises in Stuttgart. In addition to its location in Germany, the publishing house has sister companies in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria.
