Dr. Maria Schaumayer Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dr. Maria Schaumayer Foundation was founded in 1991 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the then Austrian National Bank President Maria Schaumayer - she was the first woman in the world in this role at the time - from her own funds with the aim of encouraging women to pursue and achieve top careers. Most careers in the academic sector and in the private sector ended in mid-level staff - known as the “ glass ceiling ”. One of Schaumayer at the time of establishing the foundation commissioned survey of the proportion of university professors in Austria revealed that the content was below 3%.

The foundation serves only scientific purposes, whereby the focus is on the promotion of women in management positions, especially due to excellent scientific achievements.

The foundation awarded around 1,100 prizes (as of September 2016) for excellent scientific work. The work was broad and ranged, for example, from the MINT subjects to medicine, humanities, law, biology and economics. Among them was a sub-ausspiciis-praesidentis doctoral candidate in 2015.
