Dr. Otto Suwelack is a German food manufacturer from Billerbeck . The company was founded in 1927 as a permanent milk factory. Over time, the drying process has been modernized and the product range diversified. Since 1963 the company has specialized in the freeze-drying of food.
history
On September 29, 1884 Josef Suwelack founded the modern steam dairy Billerbeck with 55 farmers from the area. Dry milk production started in 1910. In the same year, the nutrient factory GmbH was founded , in which mainly pastries, waffles and biscuits were produced. The dairy had a 50% share, Josef and Richard Suwelack each with 25%. The global economic crisis led this company to bankruptcy in 1924. Josef Suwelack senior and his son Richard Suwelack left the management of the dairy in the same year; The company was then leased to the Gelsenkirchen milk dealer cooperative. In 1927 Otto Suwelack continued the dry milk production in his own company and founded the Dr. Otto Suwelack permanent milk factory . After the Second World War, the company expanded and expanded the product range. In 1962, after the death of his father, Wolfgang Suwelack , who was 25 years old at the time, took over the company. Under his leadership, the novel freeze-drying process was introduced and further developed in 1963, which revolutionized the shelf life of food. In 2006 the company was sold to Arend Oetker, Schwartau. In 1997, Wolfgang Suwelack founded Dr. Suwelack Skin & Health Care AG, which is the world market leader in the treatment of burn victims with its products. A collagen-elastin matrix (Matriderm) enables the dermis to be rebuilt after third-degree burns . Other products were created for the cosmetics industry. Since 2012 the company name MedSkin Solutions Dr. Suwelack AG.
