The alpine rock flower ( Draba alpina ) is a species from the genus of rock flower ( Draba ) and belongs to the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). The name of the species is actually not exactly accurate, as the species is absent from the Alps in Europe; "Alpine rock flower" is actually meant accordingly.
description
The perennial herbaceous plant forms smaller cushions, but can also grow semi-shrubby. It becomes about 5 to 20 cm high. The leaves, laid out in a rosette, have entire margins and are thin. The upper side of the leaf appears bare, while the underside of the leaf and the leafless stem are covered with star hairs.
The flowers of the alpine rock flower, from which smooth, elliptical pods later develop, have four yellow or white petals that can be 3.5 to 5 mm long and narrow towards the end. The fruit stand has an elongated, grape-shaped shape with spreading branches.
The flowering period is from June to July.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 64, 80 or 120.
Occurrence
The alpine rock flower occurs on moist, calcareous soils in alpine and polar regions, but is absent in the Alps. Preferred locations are snow valleys , rock ledges and flowing earth soils .
Others
The Greek word drabe , from which the scientific name is derived, means "hot", "bitter" or "burning". "Alpinus" here means the alpine level; not the mountains of the Alps.
