The Drachenfels-Club e. V. is an association for the preservation and beautification of monuments in the area of Bad Dürkheim . He owns numerous natural and architectural monuments, some of which he received and some of which he built himself.

history

In 1873 the Drachenfels Club was founded under the chairman Wilhelm Schepp. It was named after the association's first project, the opening of the Drachenhöhle in the Drachenfels , a mountain in the Bad Dürkheim district that is associated with the Nibelungen saga . Further renovations and fencing of squares and natural monuments followed in the next year. A short time later, probably around 1875, the Laurahütte in Leistadt , which he had not built himself , was transferred to the new association . Rather, the association cultivated the legacy of the Retzer family from Freinsheim . From 1896 the association designed one of its most elaborate structures, the Bismarck Tower on the Peterskopf . Countless new buildings of shelters and renovations of buildings and natural monuments followed. During the Second World War , the association's activities were suspended. In 1947 the association was re-established in its current form.
