Dragon dance

Dragon dance is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture . Like the lion dance , it is most common at official celebrations. The dance is performed by a team of experienced dancers who manipulate the long, flexible figure of a kite with the help of sticks that have been positioned at regular intervals along the length of the kite. The dance team simulates the imaginary movements of this river spirit in a winding, undulating manner.

The dragon dance is often performed during the Chinese New Year celebrations . Chinese dragons are a symbol of Chinese culture and are believed to bring good luck to people, therefore the longer the dragon is in the dance, the more luck it brings to the community. Dragons are also believed to possess qualities that include great power, dignity, fertility, wisdom, and bliss. The appearance of a dragon is fearsome and brave, but it is benevolent and it was an emblem to represent imperial authority. The movements in a performance traditionally symbolize historical roles of dragons demonstrating power and dignity.
