Wire break

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wire breakage is a term from electrical engineering that describes the fault condition in which a normally closed electrical circuit has an interruption and therefore no longer works.

In automation technology, live-zero technology is used to detect a wire break . With the standard signal 4–20 mA, the start of the measuring range is assigned to the signal value 4 mA. If a wire break then occurs, this can be determined due to the lack of current.

A wire break in the cabling of the sensors of hazard alarm systems can be detected using the closed- circuit principle . This is used, for example, in burglar alarm systems or fire alarm systems .
