The shooting schedule defines the sequence of the shooting and gives the planning for a film shoot the necessary structure to work efficiently in terms of time and costs.

Before the shooting of a film begins, the shooting period is determined, i.e. how many days of shooting will be required to film the script / concept. Cost reasons and organizational factors are weighed up here.

Creation

The film production management , in cooperation with the first film production manager , director and assistant director, determines which picture will be shot on which day. For this, it must be noted when which motif is available and whether the respective actors are available on these days. As soon as this has been done, the shooting schedule is packed into a daily schedule and distributed to all staff members.

A shooting schedule not only shows when which image is shot, but also when which actor will be there, whether extras, special effects, animals, cars or other special features are needed. Information about the number of camera positions to be rotated per image (scene) and day of shooting, the pre-stop time and the page length of the script scenes ( script excerpt ) is also relevant .

Nowadays, computer programs are used to develop the shooting schedule. In Germany, SESAM Dreh and Fuzzlecheck are the standard programs, while Movie Magic Scheduling is very popular internationally .
