The Trinity Column

The Trinity Column by Bystrzyca Kłodzka (Habelschwerdt) is a late Baroque statue made of sandstone by the sculptor Anton Jörg . It was built in the 18th century and stands on the northwest side of the ring or plac Wolności.

History and description

The statue was created by Anton Jörg and erected in 1736. Jörg had already created a statue in Leobschütz. The pillar was founded by the Habelschwerdter councilor Kasper Rudolf Kleinwachter. It should save the city from city fires. In 1855 Franz Tischbauer had the column renovated.

From 1900 to 1902 the column was restored by the sculptor Eisenberg and later restored by Karl-Heinz Ludwig.

The Trinity Column has a total height of 10 meters. It is crowned by the Holy Trinity: God the Father with a triangular halo, globe and scepter, the Lamb of God and the dove of the Holy Spirit. Among them are putti and the figures of Mary and Joseph, St. Anne and St. Joachim. Below Mary is the Archangel Michael. The figures of Saints Florian, Johannes Nepomuk and Franz Xaver stand around the base. A richly decorated balustrade was built around the column.
