Trinity or plague column in Nejdek

The Holy Trinity Column or Plague Column ( Czech Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice ) in the Czech town of Nejdek ( German Neudek ) is a protected monument.

history

The column was erected in 1715. According to the inscription, the then mayor Hans Georg Pöhner may have commissioned it. Neudek has been plagued by war , famine and plague epidemics several times in its history . It cannot be ruled out that the pillar is related to one of these events. Who made it is unknown. The sculptor and master stonemason from Neudek Jakob Reitzner , who was later also involved in the church renovation of Lichtenstadt , comes into question . Its original location was in the center of the city in front of the Hotel Post . In 1924 the column was moved to its current location next to the dean church of St. Martin . It has been a protected monument since May 3, 1958 and is listed as such in the list of monuments.

The column is made of granite stone. It is simple and plain in its form. At the top is the figure of St. Trinity . The base bears the inscriptions IHS and 1715 HGPöhner .
