The Dreiländerhalle

The Dreiländerhalle is a multi-purpose event hall in Passau , district of Kohlbruck. According to the operator, it has around 4,000 seats or up to 7,000 standing places.

history

In the course of the dissolution of the local Ritter-von-Scheuring barracks in 1993, the city of Passau bought the entire area from the Bundeswehr . The 1,250 m² X-Point hall, the three-country hall, a swimming pool, a parking garage and an ice rink were built on this area.

The "Passau Event Gesellschaft mbH" was responsible as the client. The Dreiländerhalle was designed by the sdks architects from Darmstadt ; The architects Michael Sonek , Michael Dummert , Thomas Kirschner and Christian Stotz were significantly involved. The landscape architect Barbara Franz from Passau was won over for the landscaping .

The majority of the construction costs came from the EU community initiative INTERREG III / A with the programs for "Bavaria-Czech Republic" and "Bavaria-Austria". The hall was put into operation at the turn of the year 2003/2004.

use

Trade fairs, cultural events and folk festivals are held in this hall and in the adjacent area.

The most famous event in this hall in Germany is likely to be the CSU's Political Ash Wednesday , which takes place there every year. In this regard, among other things, the Dreiländerhalle is the successor to Passau's Nibelungenhalle , which was demolished in spring 2004 to make room for new developments in the city center, the so-called “ Passau New Center ”.

Until 2007, the Dreiländerhalle had the addition of the Streif Arena . However, this was almost completely ignored by the population, was rarely mentioned in the media and actually only used by the operators themselves. It was therefore decided to delete this addition with effect from January 2007.
