The Drip Old Bridge is a road bridge near the Scottish city of Stirling in the council area of the same name . In 1971, the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish list of monuments in the highest monument category A. A former additional classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 2010.

history

Historic Scotland dates the construction of the Drip Old Bridge around 1773. However, another source mentions the possibility of construction earlier in the same century. A customs house was added to the west side around 1820, which is now a listed building as a Category C building. Formerly the Drip Old Bridge led the A84 (Stirling – Lochearnhead ) over the Forth . With a new bridge running directly north, the Drip Old Bridge became obsolete.

description

The 63 meter long quarry stone viaduct is located around one kilometer northwest of the city. It spans the Forth near the confluence of the Teith with five brick-lined segmental arches . The bridge piers are made of hewn natural stone . Pointed icebreakers emerge, which continue around the central arch in semi-hexagonal outlets.
