Dronningens Ur (dt. Queen's watch) is a personal honor of the Danish Queen Margrete II for those conscripts of the Royal Life Guard (Danish: Den Kongelige Livgarde ) who have finished their service and who have distinguished themselves during their service.

Award

For each award a farewell parade is held in the barracks of the Royal Life Guard on Gothersgade in Copenhagen , where Her Majesty Queen Margrete II speaks to the Life Guards for the good services in the Royal Life Guard and for the good security service thanked the royal castles and palaces.

history

The story behind Dronningens Ur goes back to 1969, when on the occasion of the 70th birthday of King Frederik IX. a fund was established. The funds in the amount of 25,187 Danish kroner were raised through contributions from all members of the Danish Guard Association (Danish: De Danske Garderforening) and the capital was made available to the king on March 11, 1969 with the aim of making it available on behalf of the King and, based on his own further decision, should benefit the conscripts in the Royal Life Guard.

The king then decided that a wristwatch should be bought annually with the engraving "Kongens ur" (King's clock) and the corresponding year. At the farewell parade of the life guards, the king wanted to present the watch to the best conscript. For the first time, King Frederik IX honored. a bodyguard with a watch during the farewell parade on February 17, 1970.

The Guard Fund "Kongens Ur" was renamed "Dronningens Ur" after the change of the throne to Queen Margrethe II in 1972. The festive part of the handover during the farewell parade is seen as beautiful evidence of the cooperation between the queen, regiment and old guardsmen.

The watch has been bought from watchmaker Ole Mathiesen (founded 1845) in Copenhagen for years .
