Drottnar is a metal band from Norway with Christian members and lyrics. The style can be described as technical, chaotic and progressive , but can be assigned to Black Metal purely musically .

A special feature of Drottnar has been the stylistic use of Soviet elements for several years: the song titles and lyrics contain Soviet-sounding terms and metaphors, the songs contain radio play elements that are reminiscent of the 20th century and at concerts all band members wear Soviet or GDR uniforms .

biography

Appearance in communist uniforms at the Elements of Rock 2013

The band was founded in 1996 under the name "Vitality". In 1997 the first demo, Doom of Antichrist , was released, which was stylistically based on Death Metal .

In 1998 they renamed themselves "Drottnar" and released a second demo called A White Realm . Here the music developed in the direction of Black and Viking Metal .

These two demos were re-released in 2000 on a CD entitled Spiritual Battle .

In 2003 a new EP called Anamorphosis was recorded and released on the Momentum Scandinavia label. The style had changed significantly again, the band was now playing very chaotic, technical Black Metal . No keyboards were used, a violin was used instead. The EP was limited to 850 copies.

In the meantime, the band switched to Endtime Productions and began recording their first album. For promotional purposes, a 7 "LP called Ad Hoc Revolt was released in February 2006 , it contained two new songs. Here the band used their" Soviet "style for the first time. The album Welterwerk was released in April 2006. It followed the style of Anamorphosis , But it turned out to be even more progressive and experimental and partly borrowed from old Extol CDs.

In November 2006, “Drottnar” members supported the only concert by the “Unblack” metal founder “ Horde ” at the Nordic Fest as session musicians . They covered their faces under balaclavas in order not to be recognized and to maintain the “myth” about the “horde”.

The three EPs have been released again by Endtime Productions. In the promotional photos, the band members now appear without uniforms. The style has evolved towards technical Doom Metal .
