Pressure intensifier (structure)

A pressure intensifier (also booster ) is a free-piston machine for changing (as a rule: increasing) from a working pressure p1 to a working pressure p2. These pressures behave like the areas of the piston A1 (primary pressure) to A2 (secondary pressure). The pressure intensifiers work discontinuously with a single stroke (e.g. for hydroforming ) or continuously in constant motion. The volume flows, on the other hand, are proportional to the piston area.

Pressure intensifiers are used when you simply want to generate particularly high pressures. Pressure intensifiers have been designed for discontinuous operation up to 12,000 bar, for continuous operation up to 6000 bar. They are used for burst tests, for the autofrettage , hydroforming (hydroforming), stamping and water jet cutting .

At the same time, they represent a media converter, since the primary medium remains separate from the secondary medium. The common primary medium is compressed air. The secondary medium is usually oil or water.
