Pressure reduction system (boiling water reactor)
The pressure relief system is a device in the containment of a boiling water reactor . It is used in the event of a loss of coolant accident , i. H. in the event of a loss of coolant due to a leak in the reactor system, to limit the pressure in the containment to a low value by reducing the pressure in the reactor circuit via safety valves .
This is achieved in that the steam flowing out into the pressure chamber is conducted through condensation pipes into the condensation chamber, where it condenses . The pressure reduction system enables the containment to be made more compact so that it can hold the entire coolant inventory of the reactor system without exceeding the design pressure .
