Pressure transducer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pressure transducer is a coupling of two hydraulic cylinders with different piston areas A 1 and A 2 . With this arrangement, very high pressure can be generated from the existing, lower pressure.

Pressure change due to connected pistons of different areas

In the case of equilibrium, the same force acts on both pistons and the definition formula for pressure,, can be rewritten:

Depending on the area ratio, the pressure can be increased by a factor of 20 or more. This is often necessary in order to firmly clamp workpieces on a machine table before machining , although only compressed air of 5 bar is available.
