Drupal Commerce is an open source - E-commerce software based on Drupal . The functionality of Drupal Commerce includes the management of products, orders and payments and covers the typical area of application of common e-commerce and online shop software. In contrast to comparable systems, the data structures are similar to Drupal itself, flexible and can be heavily modified, which enables the mapping of specific sales scenarios.
history
Drupal Commerce was originally developed by Ryan Szrama as a fundamental revision of the “Übercart” e-commerce module. The first version was released on August 23, 2011. At the moment, Drupal Commerce is largely being designed and developed by Szrama's company “Commerce Guys”.

Drupal Commerce has grown steadily since its inception. Currently the module is active on 64000 installations of Drupal. If you compare distribution trends with other online shop systems such as osCommerce and Magento, the relatively high distribution in larger e-commerce websites becomes particularly clear. The projected proportion of ecommerce websites using Drupal Commerce is currently 1%, according to builtwidth.com.
Major users of the software are the jewelry manufacturer Cartier, as well as the e-learning provider Open Sesame and the language travel provider Eurocentres.
Functions and structure
Similar to Drupal itself, Drupal Commerce has a modular structure and is integrated into its subsystems through the structure of Drupal. So are z. B. Functions such as multilingualism are also available in all areas of Drupal Commerce. The modular structure enables only subsystems of the basic system to be used for certain requirements (e.g. if no shopping cart is required). Extended functionality such as payment methods or shipping are made possible in Drupal Commerce via additional modules.
