As Drusenpapille refers to a change in the optic nerve ( optic disc ) by hyaline , semolina grain similar, often calcified deposits (drusen) on the disc margin. During the ophthalmoscope , the papilla appears somewhat thickened and the edge is blurred.

Disease emergence

Drusen in the papilla are caused by pinching optic nerve fibers through too narrow a passage in the sclera . They can also occur in certain retinal diseases such as retinopathia pigmentosa .

The retinal drusen are to be distinguished ; they have a different cause.

Clinical manifestations

Drusen of the papilla usually have no disease value. Occasionally, however, they can cause nerve fiber damage and visual field loss. Central visual acuity is almost always intact.

Investigation methods

Bilateral drusen of the optic papilla on computed tomography

Superficial drusen can be seen directly in an ophthalmoscope, deep-seated drusen can be detected using sonography or computer tomography .

treatment

No treatment is possible.
