Jamal Abu al-Jadyan
Jamal Abu al-Jadyan ( Arabic جمال أبو الجديان, DMG Ǧamāl Abū l-Ǧadyān ; * 1958 ; † June 11, 2007 in Bait Lahiya ) was a Palestinian politician and co-founder of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade . His nickname was Abu Mahir.
Life
Abu al-Jadyan was born in 1958. In 1975 he joined Fatah. He was arrested two years later and sentenced to ten years in prison in 1978. In 1988 he was released from prison. He also spent 1989 in prison. In 1990 he was expelled to Lebanon and went to Algeria. In 1994 he went to the Gaza Strip and worked there with the rank of major for Force 17 . In 2002 he became the commander of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade in the Gaza Strip. The following year he became Secretary General of Fatah in the northern Gaza Strip .
The Abu al-Jadyan property was besieged for four hours on June 11, 2007 by members of the Qassam Brigades . The property was destroyed, Abu al-Jadyan was killed and many members of his family were injured. The death of the politician was an act of revenge by Hamas and part of the escalating, civil war-like power struggle between Hamas and Fatah in the early summer of 2007 in the Gaza Strip. His death in turn led to numerous acts of revenge by the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip, with several dead. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned the act. A little later, Abu al-Jadyan's brother was also murdered in another act of revenge by Hamas, which kidnapped him.
