Jebel al-Lauz

The Jebel al-Lauz ( Arabic جبل اللوز, DMG Ǧabal al-Lawz , English Jabal al-Lawz ) is a 2580 meter high mountain in northwest Saudi Arabia . It is located about 50 kilometers east of the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba and about 70 kilometers south of the border with Jordan in the Tabuk province . The name of the mountain translates as ' almond mountain '.

In the Bible , the area around the Jabal al-Lauz is referred to as Midian , but its location and extent cannot be precisely delimited. Some researchers assume after the description of the "mountain of God" Horeb a possible correspondence with the Jabal el-Lauz, instead of with the mountain Sinai .
