You haunted me at night

You haunted me at night was a very successful anthology in post-war Germany with “last letters and notes from victims of the Nazi regime” (subtitle of the record edition). The first edition appeared in 1954, an eighth (76th – 80th thousand) in 1994.

The book combines farewell letters and notes from central figures of the resistance such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Peter Graf Yorck von Wartenburg and initially less well-known people such as Kim Malthe-Bruun or Cato Bontjes van Beek .

You haunted me at night was also published in English under the title Dying we live . Under the title In the face of death appeared the record edition, on which a selection from the volume was spoken by Hans Baur , Kurt Ebbinghaus , Hannelore Hoger , Gert Keller , Wilhelm Kürten , Maria Ott , Peter Reisner , Heiner Schmidt and Gert Westphal .
