The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( English , shortly DEWA , Arabic هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي, DMG haiʾat kahrabāʾ wa-miyāh Dubayy , German  Dubai electricity and water authority ) is the state energy and water supply company of the Emirates Dubai .

DEWA operates all public power plants and water treatment plants in Dubai, in particular the Jabal Ali power plant and seawater desalination plant , by far the largest such plant in Dubai and one of the largest in the world.

DEWA supplies water and energy (in the form of electricity and long-distance gas ) to commercial and private end customers in Dubai at low prices (until 2011 even free of charge for privileged locals). In addition to the drinking and industrial water supply for private households and businesses, the water is also used to irrigate the green spaces in Dubai.

With the electricity and water authorities of the other United Emirates, e.g. B. the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) for Abu Dhabi or the Sharjah Water and Electricity Authority (SEWA) for Sharjah , the DEWA cooperates under the umbrella of the national Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) .

After DEWA had mainly used conventional gas-fired power plants in the past , DEWA began to expand its energy mix to include solar power . This expansion is happening in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park near the desert city of Dubai in several phases. After the installation of photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of over 200 megawatts (MW) and the award for a further 800 MW of photovoltaic capacity, a solar thermal power plant with a capacity of 700 megawatts is now to follow , which is supposed to deliver electricity day and night.
