Dubai International City

Dubai International City ( Arabic مدينة دبي العالمية, DMG Madīnat Dubayy al-ʿālamiyya ) is a district of Dubai , United Arab Emirates , which extends over an area of ​​800 hectares in the Al Warsan region. The facility is designed for a population of 120,000. The marketing name International City is intended to make it clear that architectural borrowings from some of the world's cultures can be found in this project. The total cost is estimated at 1.9 billion US $, the total gross floor area of the buildings should cover 3.3 million square meters.

The project started in July 2002 and the foundation stone was laid in February 2003. The first building was completed in July 2004 before the first residents moved in in September. The project was completed in 2007.

The area was divided into different zones:

  • the residential district with an extension of 300 hectares, which is composed of the architectural replicas of historical buildings from the countries of China, Russia, Persia, Italy, England, Greece, Morocco, France, Spain and the Emirates.
  • the smaller Central District , which covers an area of ​​21 hectares and serves as the core of commercial activities
  • the Dubai Gate (also announced as the Dubai Design Center (DDC)), a supraregional building services advice and purchase offer on an exhibition site with hotels
  • The Dragon Mart is dedicated to the small-scale Chinese trade, it covers an area of ​​50 hectares and the site is traversed by an axis 1.4 kilometers in length. More than 3000 smaller Chinese shops are to offer their goods and services on the site.
  • The Forbidden City extends over an area of ​​24 hectares and is intended to be a detailed replica of the Forbidden City of Beijing . In this area, a museum, a large restaurant, various Chinese gardens and a courtyard for musical performances are to be set up.
  • The Lake District will spread out centrally around an artificial lake in an area of ​​60 hectares. The area is characterized by residential buildings and public parks.
