Duffield Castle (Yorkshire)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duffield Castle was a castle in the floodplain of the Derwent near the village of North Duffield in English administrative unit North Yorkshire .

history

It was first mentioned in a document in 1320. Duffield Castle then belonged to John Hussey, 1st Baron of Sleaford , who was executed in 1537. It is not certain when the castle was destroyed, but the remains that have survived to this day are earthworks that mark the location of the castle mound and moats. A farmhouse was later built on the property.
