Dumbreck Castle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dumbreck Castle was a 16th century tower block about 5.5 km west of Ellon in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire . It was also called Drumbeck Castle or Mains of Dumbreck .

history

The property belonged to the Dumbreck family . Then it fell to the Meldrum family , who had the castle built. Because of the architectural style, which can still be seen in detail, it is assumed that the residential tower is the work of the master builder Thomas Leper .

today

Nothing is left of the residential tower. Architectural fragments were integrated into various farmhouses. The left part of a loopholes can be found in the east-northeast facing gable of a farmhouse and a hewn stone fragment in the north wall in an agricultural outbuilding to the east of it.
