Dun Grugaig

Dun Grugaig (or Caisteal Chonil) lies on the north bank of "Abhainn a'Ghlaine Bhig" river in Glenelg , near Dun Troddan in the Highlands in Scotland . It is not to be confused with Dun Grugaig on Skye .

Dun Grugaig is an unexcavated semicircular to D-shaped dun or a semi- or protobroch . It was built with its straight side on the edge of a valley (similar to an Inland Promontory Fort ) and measures around 17.0 by 12.0 meters. It has a cavity wall that is over 4.0 m thick and has a residual height of up to 2.4 m, as is characteristic of later Brochs. It was studied by L. Bogle in 1895 and by A Graham in 1949.

The structured southeast gate appears to have been the main entrance. A second entrance is at the western end. The interior is full of rubble. In the inner wall there are three openings to intramural galleries, the traces of which can also be seen on the wall on the south side.
