Dunkelgrafen was a German black metal band from Saxony, founded in 1995 . The band borrowed their name from the legends of the Dark Countess and her husband, who lived at Eisausen Castle near Hildburghausen at the beginning of the 19th century .

history

The first three albums were released on the Last Episode label . After its bankruptcy , the band moved to Miriquidi Productions. After four studio albums and one live recording, Dunkelgrafen broke up in 2005.

Some members are still active in other black metal projects. Drummer Athanassius is the singer in the band Silberbach and singer Dunkelgraf plays bass in Infernal Regency. The guitarist Lord Asgaqlun, who left in 1998, was also guitarist for Vilkates and Andras , and Camulos and Caedes are also part of his musical vita.

style

The singing of Dunkelgraf was typical of Black Metal screeching, in some places his band colleague Iskariot came to support with a singing borrowed from Death Metal .

Most of the critics saw the band's releases as mediocre and average, the cover design often being too clichéd and uncreative. Nevertheless, the band was known in the German underground and is even counted in a review as one of the “more important bands from Germany”, “regardless of […] their previous noise”. In terms of text, it was about anti-Christian and satanic ideas. Song texts were printed in the booklets of the albums Baphomet's Aeon , Triumph des Fleisches and Oris Diabolis .
