Dyer Island is a small island in Narragansett Bay in the US state of Rhode Island .
It is located one kilometer off the west coast of the island of Rhode Island and is part of the village of Melville , which belongs to the city of Portsmouth .
Dyer Island is uninhabited and has a land area of approximately 12 hectares . Prudence Island is 1,300 meters to the west .
