The Dynamikum (derived from dynamics ) is a technology museum that opened on April 29, 2008 on the site of the former Rheinberger shoe factory in Pirmasens , Rhineland-Palatinate . The interactive museum is intended to make phenomena from nature and technology tangible and to serve as an extracurricular learning location.

Subject areas

On 4,000 square meters of exhibition space over two floors, the Science Center Pirmasens shows exhibits under the main theme "Movement" in around 150 interactive experiment stations. These are subdivided into the eight areas of “approach”, “moving mass”, “turning”, “moving machines”, “fast nature”, “human forces”, “thinking in motion” and “dance of the world”. The exhibits also include an infinity machine .

Development and building

The Dynamikum was located in the Rheinberger , the former largest shoe factory in Germany.

The starting point of the dynamic lies in the topography and history of the German shoe town of Pirmasens. Furthermore, some of the exhibits were inspired by the Gießen counterpart Mathematikum and some were donated.

The building that characterizes the cityscape from the beginnings of industrial shoe production in 1905 developed from what was once Germany's largest shoe factory into a museum. Based on the main theme of "Movement", the "Band of Movement" stretches over 480 meters through the two floors of the exhibition and establishes links between the exhibition areas and Pirmasens history as well as personalities who have moved something - or were moved by something. Special exhibitions expand the range of topics in both academic and artistic terms.

The exhibition sees itself as a focus of the regional economy, which the Dynamikum financed in addition to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , the district association Palatinate , the European Social Fund , the city of Pirmasens and private individuals. The district association also supports the facility with an ongoing annual payment of 80,000 euros.

The support association Dynamikum eV with its chairman Thomas Stumm and the managing director Rolf Schlicher is responsible for ongoing operations, the development of new exhibits and the didactic concept .

The Dynamikum was opened on April 29, 2008 by Federal Minister Annette Schavan and is the first Science Center in Rhineland-Palatinate.
