E-girls and e-boys (also e-kids ), from “ electronic girls / boys” , are people in a youth culture since the late 2010s who are mainly present on social media . The clothing style and appearance contain elements from skater culture, fashion from the 1990s and 2000s, anime , hip-hop , gothic , emo and rave .

Your alternative fashion choice usually consists of baggy, cheap clothes, in shades of green or pink, colored hair, nail polish and decorative necklaces. E-girls wear mesh shirts and winged eyeliners , while e-boys wear black clothing over long-sleeved striped shirts and draped center partings. Both boys and girls can wear heavy makeup, especially pink blush on their cheeks and nose that mimics anime or lolita fashion. Fake freckles are common. Small shapes are often drawn under the eyes, mostly heart shapes. YouTuber Jenna Marbles has shot a video that mimics an e-girl's makeup style and describes it as a mix of “ Harajuku , Emo, and Igari makeup,” the latter being a Japanese makeup style is.

Videos of e-girls and e-boys tend to be flirtatious and sometimes overtly sexual. Rolling eyes and protruding tongues (a facial expression in pornographic manga , anime and eroge , which in Japanese pornography as Ahegao is known and the peak mimics) are common.

Many e-girls and e-boys are represented on TikTok , Twitch and Instagram and post their videos there in which they sing songs, broadcast computer games live and present themselves. Another trend are “e-girl factory videos” in which normal-looking people are converted into e-girls and e-boys.

E-girls and e-boys are similar to the youth cultures of soft girls, VSCO girls and Tumblr girls. Cosplay elements also flow into this subculture.
